Command-line options
Starting FlightOut from a shortcut or terminal with options: joining a server straight away, running a dedicated server, and choosing the graphics driver.
On this page
Most players never need these. They're for shortcuts, scripts and servers.
How options are written
FlightOut's own options come after a -- on its own, so they aren't mistaken for the game engine's:
FlightOut.exe -- --connect=play.flightout.app --callsign=Falcon
Options before the -- go to the engine (Godot), such as --headless.
The program is:
| System | Program |
|---|---|
| Windows | FlightOut.exe in the install folder |
| macOS | /Applications/FlightOut.app/Contents/MacOS/FlightOut |
| Linux | ./FlightOut.x86_64 (or ./FlightOut.arm64) in the folder you unpacked |
Join a server at start
FlightOut -- --connect=play.flightout.app --callsign=Falcon
| Option | Does |
|---|---|
--connect=host or --connect=host:port | Joins that server as soon as the main menu opens (only the first time it opens) |
--callsign=Name | Your callsign for that connection. Without it you're "Pilot" |
If the connection fails, you simply stay on the main menu, with no message. The callsign given here isn't saved.
Run a dedicated server
FlightOut --headless -- --server --name="My server" --port=27015
| Option | Does |
|---|---|
--headless (before --) | No window, no graphics |
--server | Run as a server |
--name="..." | The server's name, up to 48 characters |
--port=N | UDP port to listen on (default 27015) |
See Hosting a server for the rest.
Graphics drivers
FlightOut picks a graphics driver itself (Vulkan, DirectX 12 or Metal, depending on your computer; OpenGL if none of those work). If your computer has trouble with one, you can ask for another with the engine's --rendering-driver option (before the --):
| Option | Uses |
|---|---|
--rendering-driver vulkan | Vulkan |
--rendering-driver d3d12 | DirectX 12 (Windows) |
--rendering-driver opengl3 | OpenGL: simpler graphics, no volumetric clouds |
This is an engine option, offered as a last resort and not supported as a normal way to play.
Window size
Use the Window mode setting (Settings, DISPLAY) rather than command-line options: FlightOut applies its own setting when it starts.
Checked against FlightOut 0.5.2.
